Just the other day, IDW Publishing released the newest issue of their Prisoners of Time comic book series. If you are not familiar with it, this is an ambitious 12-part maxi-series that features a different Doctor in each issue. The new issue, #10, features (of course) the Tenth Doctor and companion Martha Jones in an adventure to the Griffith Observatory in 1950s-era Los Angeles.

Written by David and Scott Tipton (IDW’s Star Trek and Angel comics) with what looks to be stunning art and likenesses by Italian illustrator Elena Casagrande (Hulk, True Blood), Prisoners of Time #10 will be one of the last issues of Doctor Who-related comics that IDW publishes.

Last summer, the company lost its Doctor Who license and their final Who-related comics will appear at the end of 2013. As an effect, longtime IDW Who-writer and fan-favorite Tony Lee recently announced on his Facebook page that he will be cutting back on his convention appearances, especially in 2014.

It appears that the upstart Titan Comics company may be taking over the Who license next year.

IDW’s Prisoners of Time #10, with cover art by Francesco Francavilla, is available online and at your finer comic book establishments. The cover price is $3.99.
